An extended (16-minute) piano prelude for the Advent and Christmas season, featuring a unique suite of ancient Christmas music. Carols included are Gabriel's Message (Basque Carol), Song of the Crib (15th century German Carol, "Joseph Dearest, Dearest Mild"), Coverdale's Carol (originating in West Yorkshire c.1546), Sussex and Hereford Carols, and Gloucestershire Wassail. The settings feature contemporary stylings, harmonies and techniques. Although the complete suite is over 16 minutes in duration, each of the four movements can be isolated and can work independently. Suitable for a pianist at Associated Board grade 7 or higher, this suite is well worth the study and preparation.
A recent listener's review:
"I really love it. I love the bell at the beginning, calling everyone to church. I love the carol where you have the bell effect playing the melody with the piano, it’s very effective and atmospheric, also the blizzard effect. It made me feel quite shivery.
Your piano playing, as ever, is so beautiful and the acoustics are just fabulous.
A lovely work, beautifully played and produced."
